Intel Mac w/ touchbar with a T2 security chip— did you flash the board with original serial number ?

the board had the latest OS installed and I set up with that. It boots, logs in lets you do anything then bam - restarts.

it did come up with a kernel panic error the first time it did it

A SafeBoot Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support will sort many anomalies

Does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled temporarily.

Login and test. Reboot  as normal and test.  Caches get rebuilt automatically.
