Hi, I'm looking for help with audio capture using Audacity. Apparently M-Series Macs can't capture audio with Audacity, and can not find a solution with various 3rd party helpers. Has anyone figured out how to do this?

I'm looking to capture YouTube, etc. in real time on my MacBook M1 Pro. It seems MacOS does not natively support that. I've had a Linux box that I got Audacity to do this, but no luck so far here.

Anyone using Audacity here? Can Garage Band capture real-time stereo audio? (I'm talking song starts, hit record/stop and export it to M4A).

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 14.5

The only way you can capture app-based audio (as in streaming audio in a browser) is if you install a utility to route audio to your recording app. This has nothing to do with M-series Macs, it has always been this way.

My preferred app for this is Audio Hijack, which is a complete solution for capturing & recording audio from any app.

Alternatively, you could use Loopback, which is an audio routing utility, or BlackHole Audio which is a DIY audio routing solution, to route streaming audio to Audacity, GB or any other sound recording app.
