new download cannot read library

After loading up a New (to me) I-Pod I-tunes would not open. So I deleted all associated apps and re-downloaded. Installs but will not open and I get the message : "The File "I Tunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of I Tunes:". I have had to download the app a few times when I put a new I-Pod in service (4 in total)
