Apple Watch SE 2022 suddenly died

Hi! I have an Apple Watch SE 2022 since September 2023, when I replaced a previous one within the guarantee period after it died in the last summer. All year long lasted very well, tracking my daily routine and running habits. Until a week ago, when I started putting it into the sea in very shallow water and not for more than 40 minutes. Initially the charging pattern changed to considerably longer, and yesterday the watch suddenly died after randomly showing the emergency call. An indication showed the charger with a red lighting bolt. I left to charge overnight and now is completely dead. No vital signs at all! I am very worried because I have been using it according to the instructions and the watch really synchronised with all other apple devices- applications (e.g. Apple Music). My guarantee expired last December, the watch died just like the previous summer, and now I am left with no options.

Sorry, but this looks like seawater damaged your watch internally.

You will have to get the watch replaced, water damage can not be fixed.

Since water damage is not covered by the warranty, you will have to pay a service fee, to get the watch replaced with a new one.

Open this Apple Watch Service page, then scroll down to "How much will it cost", then choose the Service type (In your case "Other Damage"), and your Apple Watch model, and then click on "Get Estimate" to see the amount of the service fee with or without the Apple Care coverage.

At the top of the page click on the "Get Service" button, which will take you to your personal Apple acount, containing your products and all kind of service options, to start the process.

But you can also contact the official Apple Support by phone, all phone numbers are listed on this page:

Or visit an Authorised Apple Service Provider or Apple Store next to your place:

But you can not choose another Apple Watch model, even if you want to pay extra, no matter if your Apple product is covered by the one-year warranty or Apple Care plus.

When I bought my first Apple Watch 5 a couple of years ago, I added the Apple Care plan along with the online purchase at the Apple Online Store. After a few months I accidentally dropped the watch onto a concrete floor, which shattered the display. I called the Apple Support the next morning, and all I had to pay was the $69 service fee, the replacement watch arrived the very next day.

I renewed the plan after those two years, and now I pay Apple Care plus on a monthly basis, and Apple even replaced the battery at no additional costs after the watch reached 80% battery health after 3 years.

A family member is still using the Series 5, since I upgraded to the Apple Watch Ultra 2, again adding a new Apple Care plus warranty to the purchase.

Ingo, thanks for the prompt response! However, I was using the watch according to the manufacturer’s instructions regarding swimming. Besides, the menu on the watch offers the option of swimming! It is hard to imagine that a company such as Apple does not allow the very rudimentary function of swimming the very same moment that sells a sports watch. To my humble opinion, this is a deficiency exclusively attributed to the company. Also, it is very disappointing that the company offers only one year warranty (non renewable even if the watch is replaced in the mean time just like in my case). Finally, frankly speaking, I hesitate to buy again an Apple Watch, since I can not comprehend what the company means by “water resistance”. Despite my deep wish for an Apple Watch that could synch with the rest of my devices, I will prefer to turn to another company, which at least will provide the very fundamental and long-achieved function for a watch, let alone sports watch, that of water resistance. Overall, Apple should assume the responsibility of replacing the watch. I truly wish our communication to start a new thinking on the matter, so apple clients to receive a more efficient support. Many thanks for taking the time to address this issue. Best wishes!!

You're welcome.

When I bought my latest Apple Watch, I added an Apple Care plus warranty to it, to be on the safe side, should the watch get damaged by accident or water.

And the service fee for getting the watch serviced or replaced in such cases isn't that high compared to the usual service fee.

Since this is a user to user forum, Apple does not follow these discussions.

But, if you use the Feedback link, you can tell them about your thoughts and wishes:

Ingo, thanks a lot. That was truly helpful. Since I am a first-time user of Apple Watch, and if I am not getting too tiresome, would you be so kind to share a little bit more of your experience regarding the service and the fee in cases such as mine? What shall I ask them to do? Previously you said that it cannot be fixed. So, can I go and ask them to replace it? And if yes, how much does such a trade usually cost? Can I ask them to take back, refund part of it, and me add the required amount to buy a different model? Thanks again for restoring my faith in the company
