Reboot into SafeBoot Mode and try again from SafeBoot

If an Update is Stalled:

A. Connect Using Ethernet:

Have a nearby rather with Ethernet? If so, connect using an Ethernet cable. If you have no cable, then this would be such and adapter to use, on much newer Macs: The Belkin USB-C to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter - Apple

B. Click "Cancel":

Is there a Cancel button? If so, cancel it, and then bot up in Safe Mode, trying this, once more. See here: Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support
