Return of Network preferences prevent content from loading privately

I've not been mucking around with any network settings, either in Mail.app or in the system settings. I've made no changes, nor seen a request for such.

Then in the last two days, I now am regularly seeing this at the top of emails that contain a bunch of question mark icons in place of images.

When I was dealing with this the other day, and searched the community forums, I found several reference stories this - but most over a year old, and even earlier OS versions.

The most common suggestion was to turn off the private browsing, hide IP address, and similar security protections. others suggested turning them on in various combinations. After all was said and done, I finally got things to operate correctly.

I get to my office this morning, and open my MBP, and all seems to be working well. Then I had a pesky file (mp4 that I had been working on) suddenly didn't want to open - QuickTime supposedly unable to handle it (worked fine yesterday). I rebooted my MBP... and now my email problem above is back.

Seriously? What gives? What keeps getting messed up/hijacked in the settings with nothing more than a reboot? This is macOS Sonoma 14.5, Mail.app Version 16.0 (3774.600.62).

Pretty disappointing that this is just now rearing its ugly (and inconvenient) head. Someone have a real solution to this?

This is most likely from an ongoing outage related to iCloud Private Relay that is still experiencing issues at the time of this post. For now, turning off options related to iCloud Private Relay may help.
