There is no more itunes on macbook Big Sur 64 bit. I have many songs I purchased from itunes on my iPad but they will not transfer into my music library on macbook. Airdrop transfers songs but only into Apple Music. Not the music library. I sync music but only the songs already on Macbook sync to iPad.

That feature would only ever pull in purchases, which you could just as easily download from the store directly. See Hide and unhide music, movies, TV shows, audiobooks, and books - Apple Support to unhide any hidden content and Redownload music - Apple Support to download it to local storage. Some other technique has always been needed to reclaim non-purchased content. Playlists updated on a device may sync back into the library that the content was synced from. Connecting to a new library, even with the same content, would lose those lists when syncing.

I figured that out - thought there would be a simpler way LIKE IT USED TO BE. In the good old days connecting iPad, iPod, and iPhone would bring up awindow informing that there were purchased items. BUT now it's a multilayered fiasco to get you to subscribe to Apple Music, which used to be just Music which used to be iTunes.
I have 2 Macbook airs - a 64 bit and a 32 bit - guess what ??? the 32 bit works the original iTunes method - and I will now use that to transfer purchased music and then upload playlists to my iPod Touch and iPhone 7 which we listen to. BTW - when I bought my iPod touch(32 pin/32 gig)) I purchased an Apple dock with remote, we now use that in the family room to listen to ALL our playlists .

See Recover your iTunes/Music library from your iPod or iOS device - Apple Community. The easiest method may be a temporary subscription to the Apple Music service, merging the music on the device into an iCloud Music Library which you then download to a computer and backup for security.
