Erased M1 MacBook Air and can’t reinstall macOS

so I erased my M1 MacBook Air the other day and it went into recovery mode I have tried to install MacOS from recovery mode but it keeps giving me an error, I have also tried installing macOS on a usb and trying to install it from that but it doesn’t appear to work I have took it to a friend to try recover it from his Mac but I don’t know what else I could do if that fails I have booked with an apple genius but that’s next week and I’m trying to avoid travelling an hour if I can does anybody have any ideas on what I could do to get my Macbook working again.
