Can’t Set Up Apple Watch for Family Member

Same issues for me. Worked several hours on it yesterday. Was on the phone for several hours with a couple different Apple techs repeating all the stuff i had already done. Got off the line to reboot my phone and was told they would call me back. Still waiting…

I’m having same issue too. Just bought Apple Watch se cellular for my son. Family sharing sets up but fails with cdpstateerror -2 after we assign the watch to my son’s account and it tries to share location.

We are on Telus in Canada.

tried logging on his iCloud but that didn’t help. Watch doesn’t show as device yet.

have you resolved your issue? I bought an apple watch se for my daughter and I am experiencing the same issues as everyone is describing here. I tried everything you all suggested and nothing. any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Im so glad I’m not the only one. I have spent countless hours on this issue all day with NO watch still to use for my son. I am SO frustrated! I am going to try some of these ideas mentioned as I’ve tried just about everything and talked to techs, genius’ and support and NO one can help! I’m about to return the watch and say screw it.

Thanks for chiming in here. I'm having the certificate problem. I've been escalated up the chain at Apple but it's rather pathetic help and they think it might take days (!). How did you go about updating the watch without having it setup?

I'm having the same issue. I tried logging the new Apple ID into an Apple computer account as suggested but now get further in the setup process before an error. The setup process nowasks me for the Apple computer's password before displaying the error. Additionally, the error code has changed from (CDPStateError error -2.) to (CDPStateError error -5501.) with the same message of "could not sign in".

Anyone else progressed to this new error? What is the solution?

It's a shame Apple didn't put the effort into developing the family part of the Watch as instead of creating new fans they are creating super frustrated users.

I just did this and it still didn't work. I just got a new iphone 15 yesterday so it is updated and then I updated the watch that I bought yesterday too once I paired it as personal - still didn't work for me - I'm at a loss

Is the watch a cellular model as that is needed for family setup

Having the same issue. Been with three different people on Apple Support. Latest guy is taking a video log and sending it up the IT chain to Apple. So frustrating...
