How can I reduce Calendar memory usage on my iPhone?

I have an iPad and an iPhone.

I am assuming they are synch-ed.

On each, there are multiple email accounts.

On my iPad, the calendars take about 4MB of memory.

On my iPhone, these are taking over 30GB, which is causing other issues.

I have tried deleting calendar on my iPhone and reinstating it, but it still takes 30GB or so!

I have tried to disable some calendars - which aren't used, and that doesn't help.

I have email accounts with Google and Outlook, and have read the Outlook ones can cause issues - but disabling the Outlook calendars doesn't help.

Any clues or help would be most appreciated, as this is breaking my poor phone, which I really like (and was repaired this year, so I want it to behave for a while more!).

Many thanks,

Annoying though it is to do, sometimes, backing up the phone and then restoring it from the backup, preferably using a computer, can resolve database issues that lead to things taking up a lot of room.
