Apple Account Balance Transfer/App Store Balance Refund

I recently moved countries and need to change my location to download local apps. I learned that you cannot do this with a balance in the App Store.

I've purchased 9 Macbooks and about 10 iPhones in my life, and I'm sure I'll be buying several more. That said, I have NO use for an App Store balance as I have stopped gaming and I don't use Apple for entertainment. My balance is not insignificant ($87), and I don't even recall how it got there (it has surely been there for years).

I have tried to appeal to Apple's "customer service" sensibilities to see if I can have this balance either refunded or (at the very least) transferred as a balance that I can use to purchase a new device, and so far I've been told "there's nothing we can do."

Has anyone else had this experience, and were you able to resolve it? I know some businesses are predatory in nature, but Apple (I would like to believe) is not one of them, which is why I don't think they should hide behind a technicality of a non-refundable balance. As I have voluntarily given them tens of thousands of dollars worth of business over the years, I find it predatory to have to 'waste' $87 on nothing of value to me, basically making a goodwill donation to Apple, just to be able to change my account location.

If an actual empowered human reviews this, I'm hopeful they'd be reasonable and either refund the balance (appealing to my value as a longtime customer) or at least allow me to use it on things I value, rather than catch me on a technicality. But so far this appeal has gone nowhere, so I'm looking for guidance from the community. It's more of a principal thing for me, as Apple should be willing to consider customer lifetime value, and doing the right thing by customers. Thank you.

I know you don't use Apple for entertainment but my advice would be to buy a bunch of movies and/or music. Make sure you download them to a computer and then keep archive copies. You may find that after you change countries you cannot find them on the new country's service. As long as you have your own copy they should work. Personally I'd go for music since that no longer has DRM protection.

You may have other options too such as accessories (an extra charger is always handy). This document outlines what you can buy with your Apple Account [Apple ID] balance --> What you can buy with your Apple Gift Card or Apple Account balance - Apple Support

If you wish to let Apple know how you feel, Apple Support Community is set up as an end-user to end-user technical issue support service (i.e., users like you helping other users). We are not Apple. Feedback for Apple will likely get more attention if you send it using: Product Feedback - Apple

Uh, regarding "holiday shopping" mentioned in another post, you cannot buy gift cards or gift account balance . If you want to gift something it will have to be something like hardware sent to you so you can then wrap it up and give to somebody else.

This is the long-standing manner in which the Apple Account balance has functioned. We all have to abide by those rules. It's too bad that you feel that Apple should break those long-standing rules just for you because you've been a customer so long or have spent X amount of money buying Apple products.

I've been an Apple customer since 1984. I've bought Macs, iPhones, iPads, iPods, Watches, keyboards, mouses, and various cables & adapters. Should Apple also make special accommodations for me?

You can buy a lot of different things with those funds: apps, games, music, movies, audio & electronic books, plus accessories. You could get started early on your holiday shopping.
