Carplay not working after updating to iOS 17.6

After updating to iOS 17.6 CarPlay is not working.

It tries to connect to the car but fails.

Reboot and hard reboot didn’t help

Why has this issue not been resolved yet? Update 17.6.1 doesn’t solve it either. This is a huge issue for users and can cause driving safety concerns. It is insanely frustrating that it’s been a problem for this long already

First, if your Carplay is not working due to the iOS update, simply update to iOS 17.6.1 as you have encountered this issue in iOS 17.6. To update your iPhone to the latest iOS, go to General in iPhone Settings > Software update > select the new available update, and tap Update now.

If the issue persists after the update, consider the following fixes:

  1. Check the Carplay compatibility.
  2. Try setting up Carplay again, follow this guide to setup Carplay - Connect iPhone to CarPlay - Apple Support (IN)
  3. Sometimes, if your car supports your iPhone using an aux cable, or vice versa, you may need to purchase Apple's original cord to connect.
  4. Reset the car's infotainment system.

Although other fixes have been suggested, users have found the fixes mentioned above particularly helpful. Many have resolved their issues by changing the cord.

Let me know if any of these fixes were able to help you!

Had the same problem and got it solved myself. I’m not using English as my phones language but I think the solution is the same. There is something like access, content and privacy control under screen using time section. Turn it on and then my CarPlay connects. I don’t understand why that access control is under screen using time section and how it kills CarPlay. Maybe Apple doesn’t have qualified programmers and QA tests.

Report your Fix to Apple:

Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about this issue.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come. Apple will know nothing of your fix, if you don't provide it to them.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: on what the fix is, and how you came across this. Include the URL of this thread.
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

It's not always the iOS update's fault!  Many things can cause phone problems.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution! Please look in the right direction.

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.

My CarPlay stopped working just as I updated for 17.5, and haven’t worked since. I read that quite a lot had this issue and with several different car manufacturers. I have been waiting for this update, because I thought that I would be fixed, but that’s not the case. I tried all the reset and rebooting, but now it’s just unable to connect and just keeps saying “no files to play” when I plug it in. So no GPS etc for me still.

Same here. After updating to 17.6, for about a day I saw the personal icons beside the message names just like iOS 18 is supposed to have. Then they disappeared. Next day Siri stopped reading messages. Her glowing icon appeared but there was no audio. She hasn’t worked since. Everything *looks* normal and until half-way home today Apple Music played. (I think it was Apple Music - can’t tell if it was my device’s library or not.) it stopped playing in the middle of a song. After I stopped at a store then re-started the car music played again. iPhone 14 Pro Max, 2020 RAV4 with wired CarPlay.
