Carplay not working after updating to iOS 17.6

After updating to iOS 17.6 CarPlay is not working.

It tries to connect to the car but fails.

Reboot and hard reboot didn’t help

Why has this issue not been resolved yet? Update 17.6.1 doesn’t solve it either. This is a huge issue for users and can cause driving safety concerns. It is insanely frustrating that it’s been a problem for this long already

I have a 2023 Infiniti QX60 and I am experiencing the same issue. On iOS 17.5.1, it worked totally normal! Now on 17.6, it no longer works. Bluetooth is even having issues at times. I plug in another phone running previous iOS and it works right away. I am on phone with Apple now and they told me it sounds like a device issue when clearly that isn't the case. Really hope APPLE fixes this ASAP. So unfortunately Apple support could NOT help me.

I have tried to remove the car bluetooth device and re-add it as well as the CarPlay device. I even did a full restore hoping it would take me back to previous iOS however it did NOT. So here I am waiting for Apple to fix this.

My issue started a few days after installing iOS 17.6.

2019 Mazda 3 owner, I first thought it was the cables or the USB port, and used an original Apple USB-C cable to USB.

My infotainment screen does not show the Apple CarPlay icon to the right even though BT is connected, even though it says “Apple CarPlay is connected”. I even deleted my wife and sons phone account so it was only my phone listed.

Hope there is a solve / patch / or update soon. No point in having iTunes if I can’t see them on the larger screen.

On my 13 Pro Max, after I updated to 17.6 everything works from connection and synchronization point of view but it randomly lowers the volume of the music playing from any source (Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube Music, car radio) for 1-2 seconds and gets back to what level it was before… After some minutes of working well, it lowers again de volume for 1-2 seconds…

Any idea why is this happening ?

did encounter same issue starting iOS 17.4. The restart, forget the device/car did work until 17.6. I happend to have to perform the periodical car inspection into service, where I adressed the issue.

One have to take literally what APPLE did state inhere, even when the phrasing is not quite user friendly (I mean: not for daily non computer-freaks). I am driving a Skoda; the producer did issue 2 critical update recommendations in the last 3 years. My service did not perform them previously, and also did not inform me (end-user) about criticality of it...

After updating the system firmware of the MIB II to something like 3.4.7 (if I remember well), and a subsequent online update performed by the infotaimnet system (the said MIB II), it start working again.

In other words, if me (the iphone) and my wife (car inforainment system) do not switch simmultaneously from mother language to japanese (as an example), we fail to communicate afterwards ;)

Good luck with your service workshop; there is no way arround-it. Stop blaming Apple for that, the car manufacturer and their workshops do also have faild to propagate transparently their part of the job

How did you downgrade bc they told me I can’t downgrade unless I do it through 3rd party website. I was on phone for over an hr troubleshooting before I had to disconnect and try to connect CarPlay after the billionth reboot and resolution they had me try. The woman was very nice but did not seem to want to acknowledge that it was the update. Eventho I told her it was fine before I updated. And my husband hadn’t updated and his connects fine.

how did you downgrade back to 17.5?

Aug 15, 2024 7:28 AM in response to SravanKrA

But when you’ve done all the trouble shooting steps, downgraded back to 17.5 and everything works fine, and you know this isn’t the first issue updates have had with CarPlay, done the exact same things with another phone having the same issues in a completely different vehicle, then it’s a IOS Update Issue.

Apple Car Play didn't work in my 2023 Mazda after upgrading the iPhone's OS to 17.6.1. It DID work again, four hours later. During that four hours, I tried everything I saw on websites and videos (LONG list), to no avail. I did notice two things were different, which might have broken Car Play in the car:

I *DID* change two things while trying to get Car Play working again. I noticed the upgrade changed something: Settings --> Screen Time --> Content & Privacy Restrictions was OFF, which surprised me. It should have been ON. I turned it back on at some point, and maybe that was the fix. One instruction said to turn off VPN, but that didn't make sense; I turned off the VPN's Kill Switch, which I might have turned on after the phone's OS upgrade.

Hopefully this will help someone.

I’ve had the same issue after the update, no apple CarPlay, absolutely nothing worked.

I plugged the phone into the PC and opened iTunes. I synced the phone 3 times in a row (for some reason I have to do it a few times to actually let the phone sync with Itunes). It took about 40 mins to refresh / sync everything.

anyhow, it worked! Apple CarPlay came back straight away.

hopefully this helps others, please let us know if so.

I’m having this issue with my 2020 Chevy Blazer. I cannot speak to other car manufacturers, but in my case I don’t blame Apple. General Motors is absolutely horrendous when it comes to software updates for the technology updates in their vehicles. Apple and Android phones always receive multiple software updates each year. The amount of software updates GM has released in the 4.5 years I’ve owned my Blazer? Less than 5 I’d say. I’ve had issues with apps not working proper or at all within CarPlay in the past after updates, but this is the first time the entire CarPlay system ceased functioning.

My 2020 Blazer having same issue. Went to the dealer today for a service and had them look at it. Reset the whole radio (Global Radio Reset). Paired the phone and everything all over again, Bluetooth, you name it. Still nothing. In my other post I blame GM more than Apple simply because GM isn’t diligent regarding their own software and keeping it up to date. Every time I have a software update there is usually some type of issue, but never anything this major. Many of my friends and family who have vehicles from other manufacturers never seem to have the issues I do after phone software updates. Just my GM.

I too had this problem since updating to 17.5 and 17.6. I’d tried changing cables too to no avail. I have an iPhone 13 Pro and VW Golf R with up to date software. I’ve just taken it to the dealer and they’ve cured the problem by using a VW USB cable…BUT you can’t just make a straight swap. That didn’t work. They had to delete the phone from the system, reconnect it and then reconnect CarPlay. Hey presto it works. For how long we will see.

I updated to 17.6 and CarPlay worked fine. I updated to 17.6.1 and it’s gone. I have tried all the tricks and tips. I even went into the dealer. They did a complete global radio reset, updated all the software on the radio, removed the vehicle froM my phone, added it back, etc. you name it, been tried. The service technician plugged his phone in running 17.5 and it worked perfectly. This is extremely frustrating for me bc I use CarPlay for everything from Apple music, Waze, Spotify, reading my texts, even listening to audio books through audible whole I drive and now I have been unable to access any of it for almost 2 months. I’m at the point where I am ready to bite the bullet and call Apple and wait on hold. They don’t respond to the messages in here, they don’t respond to the social media messages I’ve tried. I don’t know what else to do.
