Included in my bundel?

Hi

l would like to know the following if anyone has an answer please.

I have an iPhone and live in Holland. My provider is a Dutch company. They allow me to use my bundels at no extra charge when l am in England, so for example, if l call someone back home in Holland whilst in England l don’t get charged any extra outside of my bundels.

i have always been told (and never charged for) calling from an iPhone to another iPhone, regardless of where it is.

However, in April of this year, l made a few phone calls from my iPhone (in Holland) to an iPhone in England and my provider has charged me for these calls.

Should l have been charged?

my provider is telling me that calls from an iPhone to another iPhone are not free. I know that these calls use cellular data ;unless using FaceTime over wifi) but is the cellular data used not included in my bundels which are unlimited calls and sms messages?

Thank you and l hope someone can answer me soon.

iPhone SE, iOS 17

Calls made on your iPhone to another iPhone are not automatically FaceTime Audio calls. You have to chose that explicitly. By default, the calls are cellular.

If you make a cellular call from one phone to another, that falls under your carrier's cellular call billing. Depending on where you are and where the other person is, you may be charged roaming and/or long-distance rates. It generally doesn't matter who the manufacturer of the phone is. Consult your carrier for more details.

If you make a FaceTime call, either audio or video, the call will not use cellular minutes. If you are connected to a WiFi network, your carrier will have nothing to do with the call at all. If you use cellular data, the call will count towards your cellular data. How your carrier charges you on your plan is something you will need to ask them.

l understand now. For some reason l always thought it was like the old Blackberry that wherever you were in the world at that time Blackberry to Blackberry was free calling.

In the twenty years I worked in the cellular phone industry, which overlapped with the height of Blackberry's popularity, that wasn't true of Blackberries, either.

Obviously this is not the case with iPhone unless l use Facetime.

That is correct.

Really appreciate you time and attention to this matter.

I'm glad it was helpful.
