My Apple Pencil 1st gen has no pressure sensitivity.
I have an iPad 10th Gen that I bought for the upcoming school year. My Apple Pencil, however, is not working properly. It writes/draws and it’s tilt function works fine… but something is wrong with the pressure sensitivity.
I’ve tested the pressure sensitivity through numerous apps that support pressure sensitivity as a feature, as well as on sites that can test it. The general consensus is the same: pressure sensitivity is not functioning correctly. What I’ve discovered thanks to drawing apps is that when I apply light pressure it registers as light pressure for all of a millisecond, and then acts as if I’ve very quickly increased my pressure just by keeping the pen in the same spot. Because I can’t draw at the speed of light, this renders the pressure sensitivity non-functional.
I’ve tried the internet troubleshooting- tightening and loosening the nib, cleaning out the nib, charging, re-pairing the pencil etc. Nothing seems to work. This is a brand-new out of the box 1st edition pencil, so the issue has nothing to do with wear to the nib.
I’m starting to wonder if maybe it is the iPad and not the pencil. I know that in the Apple Pencil, the ability for pressure sensitivity resides within the pencil itself. I also however have a stylus that is compatible with pressure sensitivity that doesn’t work with that feature, and I thought it might just be a mislabel in the description.
I do have a tempered glass screen protector on my iPad. From everything that I’ve read, the screen protector should not interfere in any regard with the pencil(s), but at this point I’m not sure what else to try. Does anybody have suggestions?
