Downloaded WhatsApp from App Store, it opens and instructs user to scan QR code with iPhone. When the QR is scanned , a web site link appears overlaying the QR image and when it is clicked leads to a listing of search hits none of which include installation instructions. The iPhone is a XR running iOS 17.5.1.

Download WhatsApp app from it’s website don’t use the version from the AppStore go to www.whatsapp.com and update to if iPhone XR with iOS 17.6.1 then download WhatsApp from the AppStore or from here

Update to iOS 17.6.1, and try again.
Check with Meta WhatsApp support, and send them your feedback, then.

Thanks. I did the update some time ago and just tried again, for good luck. But, no luck.
Thanks, tried both options and same result: a web page with search results listed that are based on the code in the QR. Appreciate the ideas.
