apple music pauses while in background

My Apple Music works fine when it's the foreground app, however when I launch other apps my music starts to pause a lot.

When bring the music app to the foreground to investigate, it immediately starts to work perfectly.

I then go back to my work and it will continue to play the remainder of the current song perfectly but then when it starts the next song it has to pause constantly because it cannot download it fast enough to play while the music app is in the background. I have a very fast M2 Mac and a 100mbps Internet service that works very well. Music cannot download fast enough to play unless it's the foreground app.

I am hoping it's a simple matter of allowing Apple Music to work in the background but I have been unable to locate any controls that would allow the app a higher priority while in the background.

Any ideas on how I can fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Update.

If I download my play list then Apple Music is happy to play flawlessly in the background.

It's only having issues when I play albums or playlists that it must retrieve from the internet as it plays.
