iPhone 13 running iOS 17.6 will not charge unless it’s completely off

iPhone 13 running IOS 17.6 will not charge unless it’s completely off. The 2 things everyone says to turn off in settings are turned off. Also. Good charging gear and port is clean. It will charge after it goes completed but takes a while. If I unplug it during that time won’t start again.

krysstokes ~ With your iPhone 13 possibly being nearly three years old, it's worth checking for a weak, aging battery. So...

Does your iPhone 13 still have its original battery?

And what's the Maximum Capacity % here?...

Perform a Forced Restart on the phone. Follow the instructions very carefully, as this is a bit tricky. You may need to repeat this several times.

Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

There are only 2 possible results when you perform a Forced Restart:

1) The phone returns to normal operation

Or, if the phone is still acting up.......

2) There is a hardware problem with the phone that will need attention at the Apple Store (make an appointment) or take the phone to an authorized Apple Service shop.

You can find a list of authorized service shops in your area using the link just below:

"Just when I rang them maybe they don’t log it fully I’m not sure, would I fix it if I updated it to the 18 beta I wonder? Why ain’t more posting here regarding the issue? I’m thinking of resetting the phone fully and then restoring from iCloud but I didn’t want to do this as it takes time lol"

Upgrade to iOS17.61:

Apple recently released iOS17.6.1. So, backup your iPhone, and then perform the update. You can use a computer for this:

Trying Beta:

You can give the beta update. go. IMPORTANT: Prior to many king any major change, whatsoever, to your iPhone, be certain you create a backup of your iPhone to a Mac or PC.. That way, you can have something to restore it to, should anything go wrong with the update. To downgrade from beta, you'd need to reset your iPhone to Factory Settings, and then restore from the backup you created to get back to where you were prior to the upgrade to beta.

Plugged into Charge:

The iPhone battery will not charge, unless it is plugged in and charging. With lots installed, the charge would be slower. It would also depend on the battery health and how you are suing heal it is charging..  Go Here: iPhone Battery and Performance - Apple Support - Scroll down to "Your battery's maximum capacity". Have at least a 60% charge prior to updating.

View the Battery Health:

Apple recommends you get a new battery, once the Battery Health reaches 80% or lower. When the Battery Health is 80% or lower, it is time for a new battery.

  1. Go To: Settings
  2. Tap: Battery
  3. Tap: Battery Health
  4. View: [the percentage]
  5. Is it 80% or less?  If so, it is time for a new battery.

Report this to Apple:

Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about this issue.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come. Apple will know nothing of this, if you don't report it to them.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: that this all began after installing an update. Include the URL of this thread
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

Same here! I just updated to 17.6.1 yesterday on all my devices. The iPhone 13 port is dead. The iPad is currently working at the moment though.

For charging, I've been using the magnetic charger. It works fine, but the lightning port is completely dead. Mine doesn't even think or attempt to recognize any lightning cable plugged in.

This is a real problem, because not only will it not charge, but I can no longer transfer large media files (for work) to my computers.

I've tried everything with the exception of nuking the phone and reinstalling everything again. This isn't my first rodeo with Apple. In fact, Apple's been busted for doing stuff like this in the past with killing batteries to promote sales of newly released iPhones.

Bottom line, Apple still kills it's older phones that are a few years old or more right around the time that new iPhones are announced.

UPDATE: I just taken my phone of the magnetic charger with 100% battery. After about 10 minutes, battery is 98% with no usage.

I tried 3 types of original charger adapter.....

I've encountered the same issue on my iPhone 13 Pro. I recently bought an Apple wireless charger, which is working fine now, but there seems to be a significant bug in iOS 17.6.1. I updated my iPhone last Friday, August 25th, and after the update, my iPhone stopped charging with the Lightning port. This issue is completely related to the iOS update.

I contacted Apple Support and spent a lot of time resetting the phone using the volume up + down buttons and shutting it down. On Monday, the Lightning port worked and my phone charged, but today, August 27th, I’m experiencing the same issue—it's not charging in the standard way.

I'm very curious about this problem, and I don't want to reset my iPhone because I can’t back it up on my MacBook Pro since I can’t connect via cable. However, I have an appointment at the Apple Store tomorrow, where they will check my device.

I've shared my complaint everywhere. I won't be able to follow their advice to reset the phone because I have a VPN for project work and a banking application. If I lose these connections, it will be a major problem for me. I have losed my time and money for 4 days.

It's unbelievable! How can such an error occur just because of a new model and iOS update? This is a serious problem, and the fact that they haven't even released a fix update really makes me seriously reconsider Apple. I will share the outcome with you all. Wishing you easy, happy, hopeful, and fully charged days ahead...

I downloaded the update yesterday at 3pm and decided to install it at 9pm - I own an iPhone 13 Max Pro and since the update to 17.06 - cannot charge phone! I went out today and bought the magnetic charger (mag safe) lo and behold this works! but I cannot use the USB with the lightening port, I checked again and it downloaded another update 17.6.1 - phone was working perfectly yesterday before update. I rang Apple they said you need to bring it into a store (2 hours away) I’m based in Ireland and I said well this will cost me money so I’ll keep the receipt as the issue is the new software update that I just downloaded. I’m guessing 1000s will have this issue so my appointment is on Monday so I hope an update is pushed out to fix this asap!
