Apple watch not closing exercise ring

The last couple of days my outdoor walk is not being properly counted. I did a 36 minute walk and only a small fraction was counted. Today I had 20 minutes and went out for another 19. It only counted 9 so I started a new outdoor walk and walked 2 minutes 45 seconds. It showed time and distance. It never added that to my exercise ring which still shows 29 minutes. Yesterday was much worse. This is a stainless series 5 which I got back from battery replacement a couple of months ago. Could it be an OS update or has anyone else had this happen?

It could be that your Apple Watch is not calibrating your activity and workouts accurately, there are a few settings to make sure your Watch is calibrated correctly.

  • Make sure that Motion Calibration & Distance is turned on your iPhone,

Settings > Tap Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services > Motion Calibration and Distance

  • Double check your personal information, such as height, weight, gender and age are updated correctly in the Health app. Your Apple Watch uses that information to calculate how many calories you burn and more.

  • If you activity data is still calibrating incorrectly, you can reset your calibration data.

Open the Watch app and tap My Watch tab, then tap Privacy > Reset Fitness Calibration Data.

I'd start by unpairing and re-pairing the watch.
