When you say you want it cleaned out to sell, are you talking just your info from the drive, or actually opening the Macbook Pro up and cleaning the insides? Physically opening the 2016 MBP can be a difficult for someone who doesn't have the right tools or knowledge.

I would instead just erase the drive myself and reset it to factory settings. Make sure you have all of your files that you want to keep backed up before you begin. Go to this guide What to do before you sell, give away, trade in, or recycle your Mac - Apple Support

Skip down to the area that says "If your Mac doesn't have Erase All Content and Settings" because your MBP doesn't have Apple Silicon or a T2 chip.

Going into recovery means to turn off the computer, then to hold "command" + "R" when you press the power button.

Apple doesn’t refurbish Macs as a service. Only models that Apple itself can resell are eligible for refurbishing, as Apple sees fit (e.g. relatively new return units). The span for older Macs used to be around 8 years old for any minimal trade in value, not sure if that is still the current limit. Certified refurbished products for sale - Apple Store - Apple

A Mac Pro is different from a MacBook Pro. However, there was no Mac Pro model released between 2013 and 2019. Identify the model of your Apple device - Apple Support

If your disk was encrypted with FileVault (strongly recommended for laptops), then just erasing/reformatting the disk and thus the removal of the FileVault key and its linked account is enough to not loose private data. The disk wouldn’t be readable to anyone else, nor would anything be recoverable. SSD even more so than HDD, as the computer wouldn’t know the disk addresses directly, nor would data be sequential for more than the minimal data cluster size (4KB typically).
