Video quality converts

Hi! So I currently have an iPhone 12 and I'm filming videos in 4K. However, whenever I set these videos over to my computer and put them in iMovie, iMovie automatically converts it to 720p. I have tried all kinds of things to fix it, all kinds of camera settings etc. but it just won't help. It keeps messing up my video quality which on my phone looks fine but on iMovie looks terrible (pixel like almost). Anyone know how to solve this?

iMovie sets the resolution of the entire project based on the first thing added. If you have a title card in there, the default is 720P. Start a new project and import a 4k video file first. Then add in everything else you want to include and see if it still does that.

Recoring Videos Downgrading Resolution:

Your Camera is nothing of a video recorder. So, don't expect high-end output. As for getting a better resolution, your Mac is making ultimate use for it to play. What happens when you play it on a smart TV? Any difference?
