Here are some things to look for that come from Apple’s official page that talks about iPhone battery drain issues

  • Did you recently update your iPhone?: If you notice that your battery life has decreased after updating your iPhone, wait a few days and then check again.
  • Even though you can use your iPhone immediately after an update, certain tasks related to the update continue in the background and might affect battery life and thermal performance.
  • Background Activity: Most of the app's battery usage — such as playing music or tracking location — happened while the app was active in the background. You can improve battery life by reducing your use of the app.
  • No Mobile Coverage and Low Signal: Your iPhone was searching for a Wi-Fi or cellular signal or being used in a low signal environment, and this affected your device's battery life. To improve battery life, if you can, use your iPhone in a place with a strong signal. If you know you'll be in an area with no coverage for some time, enable Airplane Mode.
  • Notifications: The app's notifications wake the device. To improve battery life, you can adjust the app's notifications to wake the device less often.
  • Connected to Charger: The app was used only while your iPhone was charging, so the battery wasn't used.

I updated my 15 Pro to 17.6.1 about a week ago. I started to notice some things. It started with videos on Facebook, X, and Instagram being glitchy and buffering. I originally thought it was my connection. Turns out it was not my Wi-Fi or connections at all. I could replicate the issues at various locations.

My issues are:

any video (downloaded, photos, or social media) do not play.

music does not play

videos online also do not play/ We tried the YouTube and Apple webpages; nothing worked.

I can make and connect a phone call. That call does not have any audio. Facetime calls also do not connect.

My battery was hot while charging in my car on Saturday.

After several hours on Saturday with Apple support (first text chat, then phone support), I was left with a phone that didn't work well. Apple phone support tried to reset to factory settings from a computer on Saturday (connected via cable). That reset failed. I then scheduled in-person support though the Apple Support app at a local Best Buy. Best Buy ran all the same diagnostics that the Phone Support did the day before; found nothing. Best Buy hard reset my phone to factory new; same issues (no video or calls). Later on Sunday afternoon, I reopened my case and spoke to a Apple Support Manager for 2.5 hours. She ran diagnostics, attempted to reset the phone again, and tried everything possible. The phone was still quirky with the same issues. She did say that "maybe it's Verizon" and I should speak to the also. The Apple Support Manager ended the call with sending report logs to Apple Engineering to review. The Engineering review could take 3-5 days. Grrr.

I did call Verizon and review all the settings. My Verizon settings were all perfectly fine.

Now I wait for several days until Apple Support gets the Engineering review of my phone's issues

I’ve had the 15 pro max for about a month. Since 4 days ago the battery has being absolutely shot. The first 30 mins I’m awake it goes down 15-20%. Where as before this phone would last me a day and a half, now I’m charging it 2-3 times a day. People who are just posting generic apple support replies please stop. This isn’t something that’s gonna be fixed with battery tips. Apple needs to address whatever they implemented in the update. This phone was manufactured in June; purchased in July, there is ZERO reason my battery shouldn’t last a whole day.

After updating my 15 pro max to IOS to 17.6.1 i noticed that phone is getting warmer while just using youtube or chrome. Due to this issue device battery is draining faster. I have also noticed that the battery usage and its consumptions, it was all normal. But, i saw that in last 20 days after updating to latest IOS my device battery health has dropped to 92% from 97% which is 5%. Im using this device since Feb 2024 and until july 2024 i remember my battery health was 96% or 97%. Two weeks back when my battery health was dropped to 95% so i contacted apple support regarding the same issue. But they said its all normal. But today I realized that this isn't a normal issue. Apple has to compensate and address these issues.

After 17.6.1 my iPad Pro seems fine as long as I’m doing something like streaming right after charging BUT it drains overnight when not in use. Last night it was at 100% when I closed it up. When I reopened at 1pm it was 35%. This happens a lot though not every night. Tried shutting it down and restarting - didn’t help. It’s a real drag. Looking at battery levels in settings it seems to have been fine until 12M then steadily declines after. The most active app showing is home and lock screen at 2h7min which seems odd to me. Don’t see Netflix or FB or Safari.
