My Macbook is a 2015 model running IOS Monterey. Recently I notice that the playback volume has decreased.

When I use my Airpods I am able to hear plenty loud enough through them, but when I try listening with the internal speaker, it has a very low volume. Can this be caused by the battery?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.7

Try a PRAM Reset (hold it for at least three chimes).

If that does not help and both the system volume & app volume is not allowing the proper volume level, then most like the internal speakers are worn out which is very common with the 2013-2015 models since the speaker cones seem to deteriorate with age. Unfortunately I am not aware of anyone selling new replacement speakers....all the ones available online are pulled from used machines and are just as old so will like have the same or even worse problem (distortion).
