Epson printer will not print from Macbook Air.

Since early this morning I have been working on my Macbook Air to get my Epson printer working again. I completely reinstalled printer drivers, etc. and checked online. It appears that this is a long time issue with Apple computers and it has a negative impact on my ability to use the computer for my writing. Why does Apple allow a serious flaw like this to continue for such a long time? I think that this needs some serious discussion. I can buy a junky windows machine and it will have ZERO printing issues. Apple is a premium brand and an issue like printing needs to be addressed now without silly suggestions such as have you installed whatever correctly. WE NEED A FIX NOW!

SOLVED. What triggered the solution was a message I found online to explore the printer settings by using Epson diagnostic software. This software found nothing amiss. So I went an extra step. I reset the printer from scratch using the reset screen on the printer itself. Then I reentered my wifi password. Presto, the pausing issue disappeared and the printer is working normally now.

First off, you are not talking directly to Apple here. Just fellow Apple-product users trying to help other users with issues with their Apple devices.

It would help if you can, at least, tell us which exact model your Epson printer is. Also, all we know is that you are trying to print to it from a 13" MacBook Air, that is running macOS Sonoma 14.5.

Some additional info:

  • For printers that don't support AirPrint, you must associate an appropriate printer driver with the printer before you can use that printer with your Mac.
  • Apple is not responsible for creating printer drivers. Instead, they rely on printer manufacturers to test their drivers during the macOS beta period to verify compatibility. Apple then will include most of these drivers with macOS updates.
  • New installations of macOS include only Apple and generic print drivers. macOS upgrade installations also install drivers for printers already in use by the Mac.

The Epson WF3640 supports Apple's AirPrint. As such, you shouldn't have to use printer drivers at all with it. Just about any Mac, iPhone, or iPad can use AirPrint to printers that support it.

The issue is entirely with Apple pausing printing. Please search the internet and you will find an incredible number of complaints about this issue. Apple needs to address this issue.

The printer is an Epson WF3640 that runs with updated drivers. Apple is responsible to make sure that their operating system allows printing. There are NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS online about printing issues of the kind that I am experiencing. This is the 21st Century. Apple needs to resolve this ongoing issue. Until recently, there were zero printing issues and I have been working on this issue since four this morning local time. The issue is entirely with Apple pausing printing. Please search the internet and you will find an incredible number of complaints about this issue. Apple needs to address this issue.
