Are cases safe for Macbooks?

I got my Macbook Air M1 earlier this year and as I attempt to protect the outer part of my laptop, I purchased a simple clear case to avoid any scratches etc., but recently I've heard that it's actually bad for the laptop and that it can actually damage it? I just need some advice since the case really provides good protection against scratches and I would really like to keep it that way...

The key with using a protective case with your MacBook Air (MBA) is how it may affect the laptop's passive cooling since it does not incorporate a built-in fan.

The MBA's cooling system includes an aluminum heat spreader and the natural heat dissipation properties of its metal casing. This setup allows the device to stay cool under typical workloads like web browsing, document editing, and streaming. However, during more intense tasks, such as video editing or prolonged gaming, the device may get warmer. Using a case may hinder the Mac's ability to use its passive cooling feature.
