"No Backups" message keeps popping up

And it's not seeing the backup drive that's plugged in (WD) anymore. It's a MacBook Pro. That's what I chose even though it says iPad mini 5.

iPhone/iPad backup folder empty when viewing on Mac, devices say they are backed up I am trying to restore some Notability files from a backup on my iPad Pro, which I accidentally deleted. In the iPad settings under iCloud>iPad name, the device says it was backed up to iCloud lastnight. However, when I plug the iPad into my Macbook via USB and look in Finder, there are no backups shown. I have tried viewing the backup folder directly via Finder>Go>Go to folder, this file path: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/ The folder is empty, despite the iPad saying it was backed up. I also tested this with my iPhone 17 Pro with the same result. Could this be an issue with the MacBook? I have attached images below of the Finder iPad window and the empty backup folder. iPhone backup on finder stops MacBook 12” Big Sur IPhone 13 Pro iOS 17.1.1 Hi fellows, when backing up my iPhone on Finder, the backup suddenly stops as is I just plugged the iPhone to MacBook at that moment. Question: When I go to the toolbar and "Browse Time Machine Backups" there are a ton of files that show up. They're not on the disk because I disconnected it. And I've done what you've suggested and "reformatted" the disk and it seems to be readable now. But Time Machine is still saying the disk is not connected. What am I doing wrong? And if the files are already backed up, why do I need the WD on Time Machine to begin with?

So if I understand what you are saying (and I'm not techie) It'll take awhile but eventually Time Machine will eventually back up to the WD? So for now, as long as it reformatted and deleted ok on "Disk Utility" just leave it alone even if it says that no disk is connected in Time Machine backup in System Settings > General?

why are you running a restore?

you said the problem was that the backup drive could not be found?

Grant,

You said "why are you running a restore?". I'm not. Time Machine is just not recognizing or assigning the disk or something. It's plugged in. It has turned on. But it's not being recognized.

Just tried what you suggested. Ran for the first part, the WD My Passport 260F Media but wouldn't run or recognize the disk4s2.

So if I'm understanding correctly, the Time Machine won't recognize this as an external drive until it it done transferring or backing up the files? And that could take some time?
