first of all why is the hotspot turning on method so complicated for mac where it asks me my password everytime i try to turn it on and once on, it wont connect to my phone
why is it that it just gets stuck at obtaining ip address
it has got really annoying
sometimes reconnecting the lan works
sometimes restarting my mac and other times nothing really works
so i wanted to ask for any tips or any suggestions on what i might be doing wrong.

Hotspot normally activates directly and doesn’t need to prompt for passwords, so there’s already something odd going on here.
As a starting point, remove all add-on anti-malware apps, all add-on VPN client apps, all add-on cleaner apps, and any related products, all removed per the vendors’ instructions, restart, and test your connectivity again.
I’d also have a look at acquiring a carrier JetPack or MiFi or similar device from your carrier, as well.

Seems as if something is causing your Mac to lag, after login. So, perform the following...
Troubleshooting a Lagging Mac:
A. Try Safe Mode:
In Safe Mode, login items do not run, and corrupt system files(i.e. caches) are intentionally reset as a way to fix issues
B. See if your Hard drive is Failing:
What to Try:
C. Remove Login Items:
