Cannot change region

It is 2024 and still I cannot change region because the system brings up the error message “ To change region you have to cancel Apple Music first”.

This issue appears since 2018(!!!) and 6 years later Apple doesn’t bother to solve it.

I cancelled Apple Music but the same thing happens again!!! I followed suggested solutions from previous years but they didn’t work.

What on earth should I do to change region, I’m in Australia 5 years now and still struggling with the issue. How can Apple not get bothered at all to solve this after all those years??!!!!!

iPhone 13 Pro Max, iOS 17

Hey Hi, I was in a similar situation and I was as frustrated as you probably are, what It worked for me was:

  1. Go to manage your Apple ID via web (https://appleid.apple.com/account/manage/section/information).
  2. Then log in with you Apple ID.
  3. On your left side click on "Personal Information".
  4. The on your right side you can click on "Country/Region".

Make sure you don't have any money on your account, any other active subscription . After I did that it worked for me

I think I don’t understand what you mean. I go to the subscriptions and I cancel my subscription. Then it says “your subscription is cancelled. You can use apple music till 24 of September” .

So, that’s all. The subscription is cancelled. Do I have to do something further than that?

The subscription renewal has been canceled. However, the subscription hasn't yet ended. You can try contacting Apple support and asking them to end it earlier. Use the Support link at the bottom left of every page of this forum.

Yes you have to wait until September 24 that the last cycle of the payment expires then you can change the region on your Apple 🆔 but you must know that the payment method registered in your account won’t work in Australia and if you have iCloud account balance that won’t allow you to change the region because you have use before and get the account balance to zero 0️⃣

It is impressive though that Apple doesn’t bother to solve an issue that exists 6 years now and I have to go through this process. People nowadays are changing the countries that are based much more often and to change region shouldn't be that trouble! Anyway, thank you 🙏🏻

I suspect that Apple has reasons for keeping it this way, such as international copyright laws (which are kind of a mess) and distribution rights. They may have decided that inconveniencing a comparatively small number of people is less of an issue than legal challenges they might otherwise have to fend off.

But, when it's you that's being inconvenienced, that's cold comfort.
