Transferred Apple Photos library to external SSD; now all photo albums are empty

Hello:

I moved my extensive photo collection to a larger 2TB SSD drive. As far as I can tell, all the photos migrated successfully; however my equally extensive collection of photos albums and slide show all show 0 photos! How can I get them to be repopulated with all my photos?

Mac mini, macOS 14.5

First, tell us how your new SSD is formatted. To avoid damaging the Photos Library an external drive must be formatted in either APFS format or Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. Additionally, the drive can not have had Time Machine on it since it was formatted. There have been so many problems with using incompatible drives that the newest macOSs won't even allow a Library on a non-Mac formatted drive to open, since there is a chance of damaging the Photos database. Many new disk drives come formatted in ExFat, which is not compatible.
