When the phone is on mute, critical alerts do not send a sound notification

Hi,

Iphone on 17.6.1 (the same issue was present with 17.5.1, can't recall when it stopped working).

When I receive a critical alert (i.e. fire nearby) and the phone is on mute, it does not play a sound, although that's what's supposed to do. Everything alert-wise, is toggled on.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

Critical alerts are supposed to override that. I'm receiving the alert, but no sound is played. Everything is toggled on, as you can see. I'll send feedback to apple, since that's a severe issue."

Thank you for the screenshot.

Excellent job troubleshooting!

Clear the Caches.

Clear "Other":

Clear the storage named "Other". It basically contains unnecessary files such as caches that are used for system ease of use - all of which gather over time: How to Clear "Other" in your iPhone's Storage - Use Backup - User Tips. Caches would be being used for remembrance of application use. So, clear them.

Though not greyed-out, when that is the case making a setting inaccessible, clearing your caches is the fix.

Troubleshooting Notifications:

If you are not receiving Text messages, then the Carrier is who to go through. If Text Notifications are not occurring (as expected), then refer to the following...

Provide Apple Feedback:

Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this. These are user-to-user forums. No one here has knowledge of what it you to be released. So, let Apple know abouut this. Apple wont get back to you directly, but the more they hear of this, the more they will know what issues are occurring, and what fixes to include in updates to come.

To Provide Feedback:

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: on when you think this began. Include the URL of this thread.
  4. Proceed form there as necessary

How are you defining a critical alert?

Not all apps are allowed to send critical alerts. Before an app can send critical alerts, the developer needs to apply for an entitlement from Apple. Apple manually vets apps to ensure the information is critical.

If you're not receiving critical alerts from an app, I'd start by contacting the app developer.
