Why is my MacBook Pro fan so loud at startup?

Macbook Pro 13 inch 2016. Fan runs loud immediately upon start up when I am using no apps. I followed Apple advice to reset SMC. When I turned Mac on again the fan was 5 times as loud, rendering the laptop unusable. There are many many many queries about this fan issue, so what is the fault with MacBook?

Run Apple Diagnostics:

Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac - Apple Support

It is very good and picking up fan motor and fan sensor issues. This page:

Apple Diagnostics reference codes - Apple Support

translates the codes that Diagnostics returns.

A failed fan sensor can cause the fans to default to max speed. As your SMC reset ** not fix it, I am suspecting a bad temp sensor.

Has the computer been opened for service? Often, someone opening for service can damage connectors and cause the sensors to read "anomaly" and ramp up the fans.

Thank you so much. It did go for a repair about 2 months before this issue began. If likely to be a sensor I will just take it to Genius Bar & let them run diagnostics. The noise is unbearable, I don’t think I could get through it.

You have only a 90 day part/repair warranty so make sure you take it back within that time frame so that you may have a chance at a free repair. Of course if some other part has failed, then you may need to pay for the repair depending on whether the previous repair was a mail-in repair or if the tech performed the repair at the service location.
