iPhone: Circled Exclamation Point On Lock Screen?

I’m running iOS 17.6.1 on an iPhone 12 Pro

After resetting iPhone settings without erasing all contents and settings, a circled exclamation point started to appear on the lock screen. It’s located on the right side of the date

Here’s a screenshot:

I have not been able to figure out what this alert/notification is all about. Neither has it disappeared after multiple restarts. The settings are now back to what I had before reset. Nothing critical should be left out.

However, I have looked into things that could be culprits. I do not synchronize photos with iCloud. But this shouldn’t cause any errors since I have done so for years. Instead, I regularly download images to my Mac and, eventually, move them to external drives. Encrypted iPhone backups are also only on the Mac. Finally, I experience no network issues.

Is anyone familiar with other things that could cause the circled exclamation point on the lock screen to stay put? Any hints are appreciated! Thanks!

Best regards

What an excellent and yet so simple suggestion! I have indeed clicked on the "!" earlier on and was brought to a weather app (Yr). But for some weird reason I never thought that could explain something.

I immediately removed the weather app from my iPhone, then reinstalled it, went through the familiar notification procedures (for the app and its widgets), and now the "!" is gone. Instead, I have visual presention of temperature and precipitation (or lack thereof). (Normally, the name of the month is occupying that area of the lock screen.)

Hard to tell what exactly caused this beviour. Obviously, the app failed to deliver information to the lock screen. Maybe the the settings (file) had turned corrupt. Information in the app itself and in its widgets were correct.

Thanks for all hints!
