Sonoma turned my MacMini 2018 from lightning to lagging. Subsequent dot releases haven't fixed anything.

Since the "upgrade" to Sonoma my Mac is slower, more annoying to use, and some apps are so laggy they're completely unusable (e.g., Finder, Numbers, Pages).

I spent 90 minutes with Support running through the typical troubleshooting path (Safe boot, Recovery boot and Disk First Aid, removing memory hogs, ensuring adequate disk space, removing auto-launch apps (were none). Pulling an Etrecheck report. Nothing helped.

Has anyone, anyone AT ALL, found a universal culprit for this issue?

Welcome to the real world where OSes don't always run well on 6 year old machines. The demands the OS grow with each new iteration, but you're running on older Intel architecture and the OS is now optimised for the M series chips. And I wouldn't be expecting that the latest and greatest version of Windows would be setting any records on 6 year old hardware either. As for the pages and pages of people reporting the same symptom - and note, the same symptom does not mean the same problem, hence no "global fixes" - well you get those after every version of the OS is released. Seriously, go back and look through these forums. Some are genuine issues, a lot are folks misunderstanding things and occasionally some are just folks with unrealistic expectations. So frankly, there is no "universal culprit" and no "global fixes".

If you want assistance from folks here, why not post your Etrecheck report and perhaps - and it's only perhaps - someone can find something there that might assist. As you provide exactly no information about your hardware apart from the year it was built, it's impossible to suggest anything.
