I just bought a new AirTag and installed it tonight. It was kind of a hassle the main problem I have now that it’s connected and working is that the sound it makes is so faint. I am surprised that Apple has created this item. It’s almost not usable.

It could be possible that this particular AirTag is defective. You have 14 days, from the purchase date, to return it for either a full refund or a replacement.
Regardless, you cannot adjust the tag's volume as Apple has not provided us any means to do so.
