How long does 17.6.1 take to download?
So I am downloading the update and I’m just curious how long does it take for the full update to download?

A definitive indication is difficult to provide - as there are too many unknown variables.
The time required to perform the backup will be determined by many factors, including but not limited to:
- the size of the update package
- available free space on your iPad
- how much data must be temporarily offloaded to (and restored from) iCloud storage during the update process
- the speed/throughput of your internet connection
- the speed/throughput of your WiFi network
- server loading; Apple’s regional servers may be busy
The only aspect that you may be able to directly influence is your WiFi network. You should note, however, that the slowest item in the chain will ultimately be the limiting factor.
A full-version update (e.g., updating from iPadOS 16.x to 17.x) will take considerably longer than a point-update (e.g., updating from iPadOS 17.5.x to 17.6.x).
As a "very rough" estimate - anticipate a full-version update requiring up to 30 minutes to download, unpack, verify and successfully install the update package. Smaller updates may be much quicker to process and install.
