Why did my messages disappear after iOS 17.6.1 update?
After installing iOS 17.6.1 , I lost text message history from a couple of contacts only…why? Also, my Gmail history is gone before 11/2023. why?

Why do you think they have disappeared? Are you trying to scroll back and are unable to? What happens if you try to search for something further back? The Messages app is really terrible for trying to access older stuff.
You might want to try TouchCopy or iMazing. I think they both have free trials. They will allow you to archive your messages to a PDF or text file. You may find there are messages there you just can't get to.
If you're using iCloud Syncing for Messages, they're not part of your backup so restoring a backup wouldn't get them back if they are missing.

Do you see the messages if you log on to your Gmail account through a web browser? While you're there, check your storage levels.

Anything that is not backed up to the cloud might as well be considered gone.
One (copy of your data) is none, two is one.
