am sick to death of my data being uploaded to icloud without my authorisation. Yes live desktop or whatever you call it is turned "on" but why the **** does my data all move to icloud? How many years has apple been in this industry and they can't design a system whereby one's data stays where people put it i.e. on a desktop and they can still access it from another device.

Turn off optimize storage. That will keep. your files on your Mac and sync with iCloud. If you enable optimize, some files may offload to an. iCloud only status if space becomes needed on the Mac.

I don't want to. I want to *drumroll* keep a local copy of my data on my friggin desktop and (again *drumroll*) have that data accessible from other devices (yet another *drumroll*) too....
Apple should employ me as the "common sense manager" on 5 million PA.

iCloud Drive is not a cloud storage solution like Dropbox or Drive. It's mainly designed to handle syncing iCloud account data and exposed the folder, and they added a Document and Desktop sync for convenience.
guess what? I actually want my data to be kept on my desktop and be accessible from my other devices. You know how most cloud based systems work.
