You haven't told us which 2017 Mac you have. It is the Mac's hardware model – not the fact that it is running High Sierra – that determines how far you can update.

  • You can update a MacBook Air (13-inch, 2017) to Monterey, and no further.
  • You can update a MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, 2017), any of the 2017 MacBook Pros, or any of the 2017 iMacs to Ventura, and no further.
  • You can update the 2017 iMac Pro to Sonoma. I'm pretty sure you don't have this Mac.
  • There were no 2017 Mac minis or Mac Pro desktop computers.

Note: When Apple releases Sequoia later this year, anything older than Ventura will no longer be one of the "most recent three" that get the most support from application vendors.

Possible workarounds for not being able to upgrade...

Mostly you just need a more modern Browser than Safari on Catalina, Mojave, or High Sierra like Firefox or Brave.

Details about recent download Brave, for 10.13.6/10.14.6 are here:

Thanks to dialabrain…

Firefox 115 is now the current version. runs in High Sierra.

119.0.1 is now the current version and requires 10.15 or later.

Firefox 45.9.0esr will be the most up to date version with security fixes that will run on OS X 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8.

Chromium Legacy, for 10.7-10.14, which runs reasonably well with all my usual extensions on the 10.13.

Only issue is no updater, so will have to be on the lookout for new releases to install manually. Can get them here
