My iMac still says 'Looking for Data' when using Migration Assistant to my new MacBook Air

I am migrating from iMac to MacBook Air. My iMac still says looking for data to transfer. This has been saying this for 4 hours.

That's not altogether unusual. It might stay in that state for the better part of a day.


If you give up, then try again with a wired connection: direct from the iMac to the MBA, or wired Ethernet through your router — there won't be much difference between the two. Wired connections obviate all the unpredictable vagaries of wireless communication.
