The last compatible version of Pages for Catalina is 11.1. If you never installed Pages from the Mac App Store, or you bought a Mac where the seller preinstalled Pages, then you cannot get it now for Catalina and you will need to use Pages for iCloud instead.

If you previously installed Pages from the Mac App Store since Oct 2013, then launch the Mac App Store and sign in with the identical Apple ID that you used before. Next, press cmd+0 (zero) to open the Purchased panel, and if there is an indication of download or install for Pages, click that. It might be a blue cloud outline with a down arrow in it like the following:

There may be one or more dialogs that appear. Do not click Cancel and eventually one will ask if you want to install the last compatible version of Pages for macOS Cataliona. You know what to do…

Launch the App Store app and login to your account using your AppleID and password.

Once logged in, click your user icon at the lower left corner of the window.

If you have previously purchased Pages from this account, it may appear in the right pane as a "Purchased" app and you may be able to download a compatible version for your current Mac.

If you've not purchased Pages in the past, you may not find a compatible version for your Catalina Mac.

Look into the Free LibreOffice, it handles MS Office files like Word & Excel, & Page Layout…

LibreOffice is up to

  • Version 7.5.4 – Requires Mojave or later
  • Version 7.4.7 – Requires High Sierra or later
  • The LibreOffice site is now offering
  • Version 7.6.2 – Requires Catalina or later
  • Version 7.5.7 – Requires Mojave or later

Release notes indicate that as of August 2023, new versions of LibreOffice will likely require Catalina or later.

The OP was discussing Catalina, and relative to the LibreOffice Suite, Catalina is the minimum supported operating system for the current LO 24.2.5 release. All of those much older versions would be irrelevant to Catalina.

The OP has not mentioned whether there are legacy Pages documents (in which LO would be pointless), or even responded to our posts.
