My new iPhone 12 mini displays true black inconsistently

My new iPhone 12 mini has a brownish/grey display instead of true black. Some app icons like TikTok are fine but everything else eg voice memos are this faded black colour. It also tries to make any true black colours like on YouTube vids the same greyish/brown colour as the display but it isn’t good at it and ends up with this horrific blur. I’ve noticed when I pull down to see the search bar and Siri suggestions the contrast is normal and when I go into apps like compass it is fine displaying a true black background.

I have tried to change the white point, True Tone is off, increase contrast is on, reduce transparency is off. It is more of an issue with dark mode on, but still an issue in light mode.

I don’t know if this is a hardware issue or what but please let me know if there is anything I should try.
