Printer not selected

My ipad started having problems printing after the last update. Whenever I tried to print a document the print menu said "no printer selected". I would go and select the printer and it would briefly show and then go immediately show "no printer selected". I updated the printer firmware, shut my ipad off several times, restarted the wifi and nothing worked. Finally, I turned off my VPN and now it works the way it should.

You have encountered an expected VPN behaviour...

Unless your VPN configuration explicitly permits "split tunnelling", all network traffic will be routed via the VPN connection while the VPN is enabled. As such, no local network resources (such as printers) or other devices that share your local network will be accessible from the iPad.

If using a third-party VPN App that permits split tunnelling to be configured (where available - this being an advanced configuration option), you may be able to access local network resources while directing external (e.g., internet) traffic via the VPN. Split tunnels can be insecure - as sensitive network traffic may be routed outside of the secure tunnel connection. Many corporate VPNs will not permit split-tunnelling.

You should note that the native VPN client, configured from iPad settings, does not permit split tunnelling to be configured from the iPad itself.
