Can an iPhone be compromised by a photo that was airdropped?

I recently received photos from my friend’s Iphone through Airdrops. Then my friend told me that she got her phone hacked. Is there any chance that my phone also got hacked by receiving this? I have read that hacker might attached malware through photos 😭 I also download the photos she sent me on IMessages. Please I need help!!!

Picture files are not programs, so even though malware can possibly be imbedded in an image file, there has to be a program that will lift out the malware and execute it. On iPhones we use Photos to convert image files like jpgs into pictures we can see, and Photos won't execute imbedded malware routines. As long as you don't use crazy picture software, you'll be safe. Frankly, I'd doubt that your friend has really had her phone hijacked by some nefarious hacker, especially if it's an iPhone-- there are lots of ways that things can go silly that don't involve hacking.
