MacBook Air(2015) running macOS Monterey randomly keep shutting off

Hi

My Macbook Air 13" early 2015 i5 8Gb ram 256 SSD keeps randomly shutting down.

The battery was replaced about 18 month ago.

HEALTH INFORMATION

Cycle Count = 131

Condition = Normal

The SSD S.M.A.R.T Status = Verified

I have also completed a reset of the SMC and the NVRAM/PRAM

It currently has macOS Monterey Version 12.7.6 however, the problem still happened with macOS Sierra and I even used a method to install macOS Sonoma.

It does not get hot to the touch at all.

The shut down can happen anytime but usually it will run for over a couple of hours then just close down.

If there are any other suggestions I have not already tried I would appreciate the help.

Regards

Allan

Thanks for the information. I could not run EtreCheck as after a lot of spammy type websites the Apple store said thie app is not available in your location.

The Apple Diagnostics gave me the following:-

PPT004

The battery requires a service. The battery is not functioning normally but you may not notice a change in its behaviour or the amount of charge it holds. You can continue to use your battery before it’s checked without harming your computer.

Thats interesting as it was replaced with a new one from Ifixit about 18 months to 2 years ago.

Any way it gives me a starting point to investigate further.

Thanks for the suggestions.

EtreCheck is no longer available in the App Store because the app cannot work properly without violating the App Store rules. However, the EtreCheck developer is still part of the Apple developer program so the EtreCheck app is signed & authorized to work on macOS without needing to modify or bypass any macOS security settings.

Unless you also ran the Apple Diagnostics immediately after installing the third party battery, then you have no way of knowing whether the diagnostics were ever successful with this battery. Sometimes a third party part will pass the diagnostics, and others will show a failure. I'm not really concerned about the battery if the system failure occurs while using the power adapter.

No i did not run the diagnostics when i first bought the battery, and I checked through my records and the battery was bought in April 2021. It was bought from iFixit.

The problem only started about one month ago.

Fortunately I was able to buy a refurbished MacBook Pro M2 2022 so the old one is now not used as a main PC.

Interesting point I never considered re the power cord connected. I will have to give it a go connected to power just to be sure.

Thanks for the suggestions.
