Apple Pages "freezes" almost constantly.

I use Apple Pages a lot - but it is increasingly becoming heavy. I use a MacBookPro, reasonably new, and I have a lot of bandwidth.

It is both when I write - then have a short break and then want to continue. Then the app is locked and cannot update.

Another case is if I want to name a new file - then freezing almost certain.

It is not just if I have several applications open at same time, it also happens when Pages is the solo app open.

It is a big problem for me as I write a lot and appreciate the integrated nature of Apple apps - when they work.

I think it is the connection back to iCloud that is the problem.

Anyone else experiencing same?

For macOS 14.6 or 14.6.1 you should be using Pages v14.1. You might consider booting that Mac into Safe Boot Mode (press and hold the shift-key during a cold reboot). Then restart normally. Sometimes this resolves Pages glitches…

The next time you want to launch Pages, and you would only need to do this when it has hung or crashed — press and hold the shift key while launching Pages. Create a new document from a blank template in the Template chooser, and then click Save…

On that Save panel, be certain that the arrow to the right of the location selector is pointed upward so that you have the full Save panel exposed, and save the Pages document to the Desktop. How did Pages behave with a local drive save?

This is the only place where I change the name of the Pages document. Yes, it can be done from the document title name field, but I don't use that.

Your Pages behavior with iCloud Drive will vary with the health of the Internet between you and the Apple iCloud Servers. If your iCloud storage is near or has exceeded your storage alotment, that will cause Pages to hang or otherwise not behave properly when attempting to read or save a document. A cure is to free up iCloud Drive storage.

I am using Pages v14.1 on macOS Sonoma 14.6.1 and have no issues with iCloud Drive or local drive interaction or saves. No hangs. No crashes.
