Ventura update now frequent spinning wheel with Chrome
Hi
I've got a i9 / 32GB Macbook Pro 2018 with an officially supported external GPU and the machine has still amazing powerful and is very fluent to work with Ventura 13.6.8. Using many open Chrome Tabs, Lightroom and Photoshop.
I run the current Chrome Version Version 128.0.6613.114 (Offizieller Build) (x86_64)
After upgrade to Ventura 13.6.9. Chrome became really unusable and shows frequently spinning wheels. Chrome basically freezes for two seconds.
Then, I've unplugged the external GPU, but the problem remains.
I've also tried switching on and off the hardware acceleration of Chrome. Disabled all Chrome extensions etc.
The problem remains.
Then I've upgrade the whole machine to Sonoma 14.6.1.
Sonoma offically supports the 2018 Macbook Pro.
The problem still remains!
Google Chrome is hardly usable on this "last Intel" Powerful Macbook Pro.
Again, we are not talking about performance restrictions of the machine. It has plenty of RAM and stays at low CPU usage, while Chrome is hanging. All other apps are running fast.
Then I've downgrade again to Ventura 13.6.8. from the 13.6.9. Timemachine with the Migration Assistant. Luckily downgrading minor releases work easy this way.
Now I have a super fast MacBook Pro with the current Chrome again. All is fine again, with exactly the same setting and Chrome Version.
Why am I writing this up
- There are really many posts about frustrated users with new Ventura and Sonoma installations
- The Ventura 13.6.8. to 13.6.9. change made the difference.
Thanks
