On Aug31 I applied for express replacement because of a cracked back and nearest repair store being 170 miles round trip. A ticket popped up in support app that said “expect delivery in 1-2 days”. This now 20:05 (EDT) on Sep 6. Status says we will update when replacement phone ships. How long does this take when they put in writing “expect delivery 1-2 days” on Aug 31?

We're just fellow users here and have no insight into Apple's repair parts status. You can try calling Apple Support and see if they can give you any further information.
They must be out of stock of a part needed for your iPhone, they will most likely put your order on hold till the part arrives, if you want more clarification, I would Contact Apple Support.

So it says repair cannot be completed because of back ordered parts! It is a replacement so the have no refurbished iPhone 13 Pro Max available in this hemisphere? And with new stuff coming out this month they always have supply issues and are focused on stocking new stuff? No date is given on back order situation ( whatever it is)!
