Excessive Battery Drainage (80%-20% in 12hrs) With No Usage

iPad Pro 11" 2018 model

OS: 17.6.1

Battery Health: 89% (checked at Apple Store yesterday).

Was at Apple Store having the battery checked because I noticed it was draining excessively even without use. Started at the store at 88%, by the time I left, it was at 75% within 40 minutes. Sure their diagnostic tests may tax the iPad a little more but the drain was very apparent and there was nothing the Apple tech could do because the battery health was at 89%. I explained that sure the battery can hold 89% of the charge but it's not acceptable that with minimal use, it drains that quickly. Tried to "restore" the iPad but wasn't able to so the only suggestion that the tech had at that point to mitigate the battery drain was to "use dark mode". WTF.. seriously!?!

This is a screenshot of the battery drain without much usage. As you can see, it hasn't been used and Settings eating up 50% of battery in 12hrs is ridiculous. FIX THIS ISSUE APPLE! This is NOT acceptable and by your diagnostics, the battery is within acceptable health limits so it's likely an issue with your software because as you can see in the screenshot below, nothing but your own Apple apps have been running.

iPad Pro, iPadOS 17

No, they won't. These are user-to-user forums only.

Tech forced reset and attempted to reinstall iOS but wasn't successful in doing so. No other options provided by tech aside from using dark mode to save battery.. but i can't imagine dark mode will affect had quick it is currently draining. I've also set it to "Low Power Mode" to see if that does anything.

If the tech was unable to get iPadOS reinstalled, that would appear to indicate a hardware problem with the iPad. I'm very surprised that the tech didn't follow up on that. If you can, I'd suggest you try resetting the iPad yourself (make a backup first, of course):

If it still fails, call Apple Support or take it back to the Apple Store for a proper diagnosis.

Just so you know, you're not communicating with Apple when you post in the Community. We're all just fellow users, helping out as we have time and knowledge to share.

As to your issue, that useage by Settings certainly seems unusual. Is your iPad up to date with all updates to the OS? If so, have you or the tech tried the usual steps of a force-reset and, if that doesn't help, a reinstallation of iPadOS?

iPad is up to date on the OS. Checked and no additional updates available.
