Why is my MacBook Air asking for a password to enable Touch ID?

MacBook is asking for password to enable Touch ID. I can’t remember what it is. It’s not my Apple id

As a security measure, your Mac will require you to input your login password when you boot/reboot the Mac, and periodically at other intervals. An iPhone does the same. If you've forgotten your password:
