ApplePay not working in certain stores' physical locations

My Apple Pay works almost universally, but it doesn't work in the actual store at two places I frequent: Publix and Lowe's. I've tried removing the card from my wallet and reentering. I've tried signing out of my Apple ID on my device (iPhone). I've spoken to the managers in the store. I'm not sure what else to try or how to check what might be the issue. Whenever I try to use Apple Pay at these locations, it is declined, but then I pull out the physical card (yes, same one!) and it works fine. Apple Pay works for me in every other physical location.

Lowe’s does not accept Apple Pay in the majority of its stores. Publix accepts Apple Pay but has been rolling it out slowly in some parts of its market. In some cases the transaction terminals may be programmed wrong for Apple Pay or have other issues. I live in the Tampa Bay Area which is only about 40 miles from Publix HQ. Apple Pay works in all the Publix’s around here with no issues. My closest Lowe’s does not accept Apple Pay.

Supposedly Publix and Lowe's accepts Apple Pay in store according to their website, but there are some companies that don't such as Walmart and Home Depot. At those locations the physical Apple Card works because it is processed just like any other MasterCard.

I would follow up with those specific Publix and Lowe's locations and maybe ask a clerk that works there. They would probably have a better idea if their other customers had success using Apple Pay on the terminal. It is very common nowadays, so if it is not available, I am sure you would not be the first to ask. Most terminals now also have the Apple Pay logo right on the screen if it is supported.
